Caprese salad with mozzarella is one of the most famous recipes from Campania in the world. In fact, there are two dishes that answer to this name: the main thing (or appetizer) based on mozzarella and tomatoes, and the dessert, which includes chocolate and almonds.

Today, we offer Caprese salad, with mozzarella, tomatoes and basil, one of the recipes of the Neapolitan island of Capri. Check out the 3 different types below.

Caprese with buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes

Preparation time: about 15 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

Price for 4 people:

– 300 g of fresh buffalo mozzarella

– 4 large tomatoes

– a few leaves of fresh basil

– extra virgin olive oil

– salt to taste

Training:

Wash the tomatoes well, peel them and cut them into thin slices, remove the seeds. Then, take the mozzarella and cut it into slices. Arrange the mozzarella and tomatoes on a plate, rotating between them. Take extra virgin olive oil and seasoned salt. It is kept in the refrigerator and eaten freshly prepared or after a few hours.

Perfect to accompany the mozzarella and tomato caprese is the typical wine of the island, Capri white.

Considering the high calorie content of the traditional Caprese salad, many different types are recommended that allow to reduce the high calories in this dish, and in some cases, reduce them.

Caprese with yogurt sauce and shrimp

Preparation time: 25 minutes
Difficulty: medium

– 200 g of large tomatoes
– 50 g peeled shrimps
– 125 g semi-skimmed white yogurt
– 30 g of tuna
– 2 anchovy fillets
– a small amount of desalted capers
– chopped basil

Training:

Wash the tomatoes, cut into slices, cut and remove the seeds. Then, it is prepared on a plate, using oysters. Blend the yogurt, tuna, anchovies, capers and parsley in a blender for about 1 minute, then add the tomatoes and shrimp to the resulting sauce.

In this case, the calories of the dish, around 170, are half of the traditional caprese.

Another fresh and delicious option, but simpler than the classic caprese, is to use ricotta cheese.

Caprese with ricotta and mozzarella

Preparation time: about 20 minutes
Difficulty: medium

Efrata:
buffalo mozzarella – 120 g
ricotta – 120 g
– 4 large tomatoes
– extra virgin olive oil
– a few basil leaves

Training:

Wash the tomatoes, cut them and cut them into thin slices, remove the seeds. Then cut the mozzarella into half slices and do the same with the ricotta. Arrange the tomato slices on a plate, tossing them with mozzarella and ricotta.

Add olive oil and virgin basil.
